Pesto is a traditional Italian sauce made with fresh basil leaves, garlic, pine nuts, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil. It is a versatile and flavorful sauce that can be used in many different dishes, such as pasta, sandwiches, and salads. Making pesto from scratch is easy and requires only a few simple ingredients, but the result is a delicious and fragrant sauce that will enhance the flavors of any dish. In this recipe, we will show you how to make classic pesto using a food processor, but it can also be made using a mortar and pestle for a more traditional texture.
In a food processor or blender, combine the basil, Parmesan cheese, almonds and garlic cloves. Pulse a few times until the ingredients are coarsely chopped.
While the food processor or blender is running, slowly pour in the olive oil. Continue blending until the mixture is well combined and reaches a smooth consistency. You can add more olive oil if needed to achieve the desired consistency.
Taste the pesto and season with salt and pepper according to your preference. Blend again briefly to incorporate the seasoning.
Transfer the pesto to a jar or airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. It can be kept for up to a week.
